Geography Challenge is an optional
enrichment activity for third-graders. This activity is ongoing and will
continue through most of the year. Participating
in the "challenge" will help to develop research skills and,
hopefully, stimulate interest in new
areas.
Every week, I will post five questions on
the Geography Challenge bulletin board in the classroom and on our geography
questions web page. The
questions will pertain not only to geography, but to history, economics, and
current events as well. The
boys and girls will record their answers to the questions on their own personal
Geography Challenge pages, which they are responsible for keeping in their
possession.
After four weeks have passed, we will
have a Geography Challenge meeting together. Students
who have at least fifteen correct answers on their Geography Challenge pages
will receive a small reward for their hard work.
Students can answer questions
individually or with assistance from friends and adults.
They may use their student textbooks, atlases, dictionaries,
encyclopedias, other reference books, or the Internet.
Please do not simply give the answer to your child if he or she asks you
for assistance. Instead, point out the vast resources which are available.
Many of these resources are located in our classroom and library. I will
encourage all children who have the time to do any research that they can in
class.
Good luck and have fun!
