‘Book Report in a Box’ Project
·
What do I
do first?
Choose a fictional book that you would like to
read, and bring it in for my approval. Try to choose a short chapter book.
If you need help in choosing a book, see me.
·
What do I do next?
Read the book. Think about some items that you
could place in a box to help you tell our class about the story. Choose between
four and six items, (no more than six please), and place them in a box. The box
should be big enough to hold your items. (Example: If you chose to report on
the story of ‘The Three Bears’, you might place up to six of the following items
in your box: a doll with golden hair, a package of oatmeal, a small chair or a
bed, your own picture of the house in the woods, some tennis shoes because
Goldilocks ran away, etc.) Cover your box so that it looks neat. You may
decorate it if you like.
·
What should I talk about?
(Remember that you can show us the items in your
box at any time during your report.)
First, tell us
why you chose the book.
Be sure you include the following story elements:
Title, Author, Setting, Main Characters,
and Problem
Do not talk about
the Solution since your report may inspire
your classmates
to read the book, and you don’t want to give
away the
ending!
Also be sure to
tell us whether or not you enjoyed the book
and why.
Don’t forget to
practice your report at home for your parents
first. (It
should only take between 3 and 5 minutes.)
·
Do
I have to write anything down?
You do not need to
write anything for this report. I will grade you on your oral presentation.
You may or may not write a few notes for yourself on a card, but I think that
the items in the box will help you to remember what you want to say. I will
prompt you if you forget anything.
·
When should I present this report?
These reports will
be presented between December 8th and December 12th. I’ll
have a sign up sheet so that everyone may choose a day. Then, I’ll inform your
parents about the date that you’ve chosen.
