Materials:  The student is best prepared by having a three-ringed binder with loose - leaf paper, pencils, a pen.  These items along with the math textbook and a positive hardworking attitude should be brought to class everyday.  At this time calculators are not permitted in class.  Towards the end of the second semester the class will be allowed to use them in school.  Notice will be sent home.

Class Guidelines:  In order to make the best use of the time given to us in class the students are asked to follow the guidelines listed below:

  •       Follow directions first time given.  This is designed to avoid unnecessary mistakes and wasting time.

  •      Arrive to class on time.  All students should enter the classroom quietly and take their seat.

  •       Avoid interruptions while class is in session.  Each student is asked to raise a hand to speak, avoid private conversations, and have teacher’s permission to be out of his/her assigned seat.

  •      Be prepared for class.  Always bring to class your textbook, notebook, a pen, and 2 sharpened pencils (calculators when they are permitted).

  •      Treat others as you wish to be treated.  Keep self and your belongings to self.  There is no need to touch a classmate or any of their belongings.

  •     All students should be aware that all school-wide rules apply within this classroom.

Academic Requirements:

  •      All homework assignments are to be done on loose-leaf notebook paper.  All homework papers will be headed properly.  Please follow the guidelines below:

                                1) Holes are to be on the left side of your paper

                                2) In the upper right hand corner, write your name, date, subject, assignment or

                                     page number

                                3) All papers are to be NEAT,  CLEAN, & FREE OF MUTILATION

  •       All work is to be completed when it is due.  Any incomplete, late, or missing homework will result in a pink slip.

  •       Homework is to done in PENCIL and completed in the following way:

                                1) paper is to be folded in half vertically

                                2) homework problems are to be worked out in the left half of the paper only

                                3) the following day, when homework is corrected the student will put the

corrections; steps and answers, in the right column

                                4) the correct answer will then be circled

  • ALWAYS show all of your work.  Keep papers neat and problems VERTICAL.

  •  Everyone must have a notebook.  The notebook will be divided in the following 3 categories: notes/examples from class, homework, quizzes/tests.

  •       Homework is to practice the day’s lesson.  Homework is a valid place to make errors and will not be averaged in with final grades.  However, there will be 2 (sometimes 3) quizzes given weekly to evaluate what the student has learned.  These quizzes will last generally no more than 15 minutes.

  •       Exams will be given at the conclusion of each chapter.  You are to bring to class a book to read or some other work to work on quietly at your seat on test days in case you finish the test earlier than others.  You will NOT be allowed to go to your locker while a test is being taken.

  •       Notebooks will be collected and graded for organization, accuracy, notes from class and homework completed and corrected.  Notebooks will be collected and graded no more than 3 times per quarter.

Grading Policy:

25 % - Notebook (which will also contain homework)

10% - Class work (which includes signed tests, warm-up problems, & Review problems)

      25% - Quizzes

      40% - Tests

A parent or guardian MUST sign all quizzes and tests within 2 days of them being returned.

Tardies/ Absentances:

A student will receive a tardy to class if he/she walks into the classroom late, is unprepared for class & has to go back to his/her locker or if the student is not in their seat ready to begin at the start of class.

When a student is absent they are to get any notes from a classmate.  The student will have 1 extra day for every day absent to hand in make up work.  Any missed quizzes or tests will be made up during study hall or after school at a convenient time for the teacher and parent.

**For the first quarter I will be available after school every Wednesday until 4:00 pm for after school math help.

** ASK QUESTIONS WHEN YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND!!  It makes it easier to know where you are at in your comprehension.
