Parent Resources

Arrival/Dismissal:  School begins at 8:45 AM and dismisses at 11:40 AM.  Children will remain in line on parking lot with teacher or aide until each one is dismissed individually.  Parents must notify teacher in writing if ANYONE ELSE is picking up their child.

Birthdays:  We will celebrate each kindergartner's birthday in the classroom.  Cupcakes, cookies, natural fruit juice, and birthday napkins may be sent in.

Chapel Buddies:  Kindergarten children will be paired up with one of the 8th grade students.  These "buddies" will escort the kindergartners to chapel each week, help with classroom art projects, and read to the children on Friday mornings.  The kindergartners and 8th graders will exchange photographs, in place of gifts, at graduation time.

Chapel:  A worship service will be held each Wednesday at 8:55 AM with Pastor Wollman or Pastor Zieroth for grades Pre-K through 8.  An offering is taken at each chapel service to help whatever mission project the school has selected.  Parents and grandparents are ALWAYS WELCOME to worship with us!

Progress/Assessment Reports:  Three parent conferences will be scheduled during the year to discuss each child's individual achievement.

Parent Participation Program:  Parents and grandparents are encouraged to share their talents and knowledge with the children by coming into the classroom to show slides, do arts and crafts, read, cook, show collections, etc.

Room Mothers:  The room mothers organize classroom parties, may help with field trip transportation, collect Scholastic Paper Back Book Order money, coordinate our Word Bank program, and help with graduation plans.

Snack:  Each parent is responsible for sending a recommended, nutritious, snack of fruits, vegetable, yogurt, meat, or cheese for their child.  Children will also be served bottled spring water for proper hydration.  Please advise Mrs. Sanders about any food allergies.

Holiday Parties:  These special events will be little "luncheons" with nutritious sandwiches, vegetables, fruits, and a little holiday treat.  Mothers will sign up to help with our Pumpkin, Christmas, Valentine, Easter, and End-of-the-Year parties.

Baltimore Symphony Tiny Tots Concerts:  The kindergartners will attend two concerts by the Baltimore Symphony at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.  A bus will be hired for transportation.

Art on Stage:  We will also visit Goucher College to see one or two performances presented on stage.  Selections include cultural presentations as well as children's theater.

Library:  The kindergartners will visit our school library once a week on Fridays.  They will select, take home, and be responsible for one book per week.

Physical Education:  Our physical education teacher will work with the children for 30 minutes once a week on Mondays. Children will also have 15-20 minutes of daily physical exercise each day.

Graduation:  A graduation service will be held for the kindergartners and 8th graders in early June.  Little girls wear white dresses and carry fresh flowers.  Boys wear jackets, white shirts, a boutonniere, ties, and khaki pants.  Our room mothers will coordinate graduation plans and will hold a special meeting in the Spring, before Easter vacation.

Field Trips:  Children will take several Fall and Spring field trips to provide hands on experiences to highlight, enrich, and reinforce our kindergarten themes.  Parent drivers are always needed. If necessary, each parent should provide a booster seat for their child.
