The theme for the Fifth Grade for the 2008-2009 school year will follow James 1:22.  The verse says, "Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only."  We know that we are sinners from hearing God's Law, and that we need a Savior.  That Savior is Jesus, who died on the cross for our sins, and rose again in triumph over sin, death, and the devil.  He won eternal life for all who believe in Him.  As His followers, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we try to lead lives that bring glory to His Name.  We rejoice in the gift of salvation, and will try to spread that love to all.  We are using bees of all sorts as our symbol this year.  Check around for all the bees on different sites!

God has blessed us all with wonderful gifts and talents.  We will have many opportunities through the year to serve God and share our talents with others.  Do you sing?  You may want to praise God through the choir this year.  Do you play a musical instrument?  You may want to use your gift and join the band.  Can you ring a bell?  You may want to try out for the chimes choir and use your talent to praise God in that way.

All of the Fifth Graders will be buddies with the Pre-K 4 class.  What does it mean to be a buddy?  You will sit with your buddy during Chapel, helping him or her to sit quietly and listen to the message.  Several times during the year, you will also do a project with your buddy.  You will have a lot of fun!  It's a great way to show that you are responsible.  (We talk about RESPONSIBILITY a lot!)
