History
St. Paul’s Lutheran School
traces its roots back to a kindergarten only setting
that served the congregation from 1949 – 1957. As the
program strengthened and the congregation began a time
of rapid growth, the decision was made to start an
elementary school. A pivotal piece of that process was
to call a director/principal to take responsibility for
this growth. The Lord provided just the right person in
a brand new graduate – Mr. Loren Goehner. In the fall of
1957, the school opened for the first time with
elementary grades of K – 4 as well as the kindergarten.
The school
added a grade per year over the next four years, so by
1961, the doors opened with its current eight grades.
The first graduating class in the spring of 1962 had six
students. Classrooms contained two grades each, and Mr.
Goehner was both a teacher and principal and served in
that capacity until 1994, when Thomas Kolb, a son of the
congregation and a teacher at
Baltimore
Lutheran
School
accepted a call to fill that position. For many years
the school had remained a double grade classroom school,
but new growth in the 1990s eventually brought about a
grade per classroom environment.
St. Paul’s
currently offers a two morning preschool 3s, a three
morning pre-kindergarten 4s, elementary grades 1 – 5,
and a middle school concept grades 6 – 8, located apart
from the elementary and preschool. Approval to start an
extended care program for the fall of 2010-11 has been
given by the Board of Christian Education as well.
As we
shift from a look back to a look ahead, we are confident
that God will bless all that we undertake in his name
and with his guidance. It is an exciting journey to
anticipate.
