Vision
In the fall of 2009, the St. Paul’s
Lutheran School Community recognized the need to chart a
course for a future that meets the needs of a changing
culture, but strongly embraces the core Christian values
upon which this school was founded over fifty years ago
and which will always remain at the heart of our
educational ministry. Our vision was developed by a
collaboration of school board members, staff, and
parents and was compressed into a three year plan,
recognizing the importance and urgency of adapting to
the environment in which we find ourselves.
The vision began with the year
already in progress. It identified the need to hire an
admissions director, begin to incorporate new technology
and initiate an accreditation process through a national
as well as regional agency (dual accreditation). For
school year 2010-11 it included hiring a music teacher,
continuing to add to the technology, and increase our
commitment to financial aid to families in need. By
God’s grace, we have accomplished all of these goals,
hiring an admissions director in February, installing
interactive white boards in our middle school classrooms
in mid-year, and taking the first steps in the long
accreditation process. We also brought in new
computers, creating a one-to-one environment in grades 5
– 8, with class access to a full set of computers for
grades 1 – 4 on a sign-out basis. We were also able to
hire the music teacher that we had hoped, and we are
continuing down the accreditation road. We have also
significantly increased our commitment to financial aid,
with the goal that no family that sincerely desires to
be part of our school will be prohibited due to
financial constraints.
Still in our future is the
completion of accreditation,
the addition of a foreign language,
continuing the pursuit of increasingly higher levels of
academic excellence, and – our one long-term goal –
breaking ground for a multi-purpose facility, to include
a gymnasium, by the fall of 2014.
It has been an exciting journey so
far, and we recognize the challenge of meeting our
timeline. Some goals have not been met yet, but we look forward to continuing down that path,
with God at our side.
School Structure
St. Paul’s is comprised of a preschool
program that includes a two morning pre-k 3-year-old and
a three morning 4-year-old class, a kindergarten through
fifth grade elementary program, and a sixth through
eighth grade middle school program. Our kindergarten
program can either be a half day or a full day option.
These groups are not separate, but meet together in the
morning. When the half day students leave for the day,
the full day students eat lunch and move on to an
afternoon that builds on the morning instruction. A rest
time is also part of the schedule.
The
elementary level is mostly self-contained, with the
exception of physical education and fine arts. Our
middle school is departmentalized, with students moving
among different classrooms. This part of the school is
separate from the elementary school, located in large,
airy, light and newer classrooms, and equipped with SMART
inter-active white board technology and a 1 to 1
computer environment.
